Inside Out–a Poem

Inside Out
A wizened old lady
Once looked at me
And proceeded to say
What my frivolous
Youth could not see
Your taut skin
Resembles peaches and cream
Your shinning beauty
Will make men’s eyes gleam
Enjoy these gifts
For they are not permanent
And as the years pass
You will experience
Diminishing complements
Take comfort my dear
The tarnishing of beauty
Will make evidently clear
That “what” exists within
Signifies your true nature
With this knowledge,
Enjoy the rest of your future
You should have told that old lady to shut up.
lolol … but why?
The poem is lovely!
Thank you 🙂 Glad you liked it.
This reminds me of a poem by Herrik called ‘to the virgins to make much of time’ Though it’s very differently written but similar in the theme.
And that’s why beauty comes from within right? It’s a wonderful poem.
That’s right! Then again there are some who are beautiful on the outside and down right grotesque within. You are beautiful on the inside and out,;hence your positive interpretation of the poem. Thanks for your comments 🙂
