Crazy Chick Q & A #13

This week, meet Pam of Hawleyville Blog:

Why are you a Crazy Chick?

My first novel (still in progress) is about a dead naked man-whore. That probably qualifies me right there. But there’s also the fact that I’m pretty sure my soul was switched up at birth with someone who was destined to be a stereotypical bachelor dude. I’m pathetically un-domestic, never learned to cook, and can’t wear heels without looking like a stork. I’m fanatical about Steelers football.

I do like makeup, candles, and girly boots, so I guess I’m not a total lost cause.

Describe your blog in three words.

Insightful (I hope). Funny. Evolving.

What is the title of your favorite post? Why?

“He Talked About the Deer,” part of my November “Finding Thankfulness” series. I think it is my favorite because writing it really helped me focus on finding the beauty in life even when times are tough.

If you could eat one food item for the rest of your life what would it be and why?

Pizza. This is probably also proof of my inner dudeness. Love the stuff, and it is easy to clean up after too.

Do you prefer to cook or eat out?

Eat out, because I work all day and in the evenings I’d rather be writing than worrying about what’s for dinner. But I do love it when my boyfriend cooks, which is actually pretty often.

Describe your fashion style.

I’m not very dressy at all. But I do love a perfect-fitting pair of jeans, quirky jackets, sleek shirts or sweaters, and the perfect pair of boots. In the summertime, nix the boots and the sweaters and throw in cute tank tops and flip-flops, and that’s me.

Define the word sexy.

Vibrant, classy but unique, confident, real, funny, and smiling. Smelling good helps too.

What’s your favorite: book, movie, music and television show?

Book: The Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin. If I had to pick just one, I’d probably go with the 3rd in the series even though it broke my heart.

Movie: “Tombstone.” I never get tired of watching Val Kilmer do the Doc Holiday thing.

Music: Jimmy Buffett, Toby Keith and Everclear.

TV Show: I truly can’t pick between “The Walking Dead,” “Hell on Wheels” and “Game of Thrones.”

What makes you mad?

Other than when the Steelers lose? Political and religious fanatics who are so sure they’re right that everyone else just has to be wrong. Mean people in general.

What makes you happy?

Days with no plans but to do whatever I want. Time to just chill with my boyfriend, ferret, and cat. An inspired writing day. A good book. A Steelers win. Hanging out at the family pub. Sunshine.

What makes you sad?

Cruelty to children and animals. Monday mornings. A Steelers loss. Poverty.

What’s your favorite color?

Black and gold, of course. But I like green too.

What are you most grateful for in this world?

My family and other loved ones, hands down. My ability to write and the joy doing so brings me is a close second.

What is the one achievement that makes you the most proud?

Finally taking the leap this year and trying to get some of my fiction published, and having success with two short stories.

If you could go back in time, what is the one thing you would change?

I’d stop humanity from inventing nuclear weapons.

What would you do if you were a man (anatomically correct) for a day?

Probably much of what I do now, except I’d not bother with doing my makeup, styling my hair, or checking out how my butt looks in my jeans. Pee standing up. And really try to experience what it feels like to walk around with balls in my pants all day, because I’ve always thought it would be really uncomfortable.

If you had super powers, what would it be and why?

I’d like to be able to wiggle my nose like Samantha in “Bewitched” and create money. I wouldn’t be greedy – I’d use all of it to help the truly needy except for paying off any mortgages and other debts that are keeping me and my friends and family from quitting our day jobs and pursuing our dreams full-time. Well, and I’d keep us fed and in clothes, too …

What is your dream job?

To earn my living as a fiction writer. Of course I’d love to be a bestseller, but I’d be content with just earning what I do now with stories instead of my current profession.

Share 3 non-Wordpress sites that you just can’t live without. And tell us why

Facebook – yeah, I know it can be a huge time-waster. But it has helped me reconnect with so many people.

Steelers.com – I probably don’t have to explain this one.

Accuweather.com – because I’m a closet weather geek.

Describe your craziest day.

There have been so many! But I’d probably have to say one particular day in my mid-20s. My then-husband and I had flown to South Carolina a few days before to attend his grandfather’s funeral. That day, we went to the funeral than got on a plane to head home to Maryland. I hated flying and it was only my 3rd-ever plane trip, so I was a nervous wreck. We got home and went to my parents’ house to collect our pets. We had left  them there while we were gone. My parents sat me down and told me my beloved great-uncle in West Virginia had died unexpectedly while I was gone. They hadn’t wanted to tell me while I was away attending another funeral, but had waited for me so that I could make the trip to go to his funeral with them. Then-husband had no more leave from work so he couldn’t go with us. He piled our pets in our car and headed home while I took my suitcase out of our trunk climbed into Dad’s truck with my family, and headed off in the middle of the night for West Virginia.

Getting home from one funeral trip to turn around and head off for another was kind of surreal. I had also just started a new job, and even in my grief couldn’t help but wonder if my new boss would think I was full of you-know-what about having to go to 2 out-of-state funerals in the same week. The odds were just so long against that actually happening.

What would you do if today were your last day on earth?

Surround myself with my 2 and 4-legged loved ones and just be together. Make sure everyone I couldn’t be with still knew that I loved them.

  1. This is strange but Ms. Pam reminds me of Robin from How I Met Your Mother. Just not as crazy on appearances which is fine with me! Nice to meet you Pam! Best wishes with your fiction writing!

Another fine, magic pick LaFemme! Oh and I sort of wrote my newest blog thinking of you BTW 😀

  2. Good choice on the food. That or macaroni.

  3. SilentMyth says:

  4. zemeraime says:

    Congrats on getting published!!! 🙂

    • hawleywood40 says:

Thanks! Delving into the world of actually submitting my work has been a wild ride, and “no thank you” notes still make me wanna cry or visit the shot fairy. But seeing your stories in print is the best feeling ever and so worth the effort : )!

  5. eva626 says:

the last q&A was sweet. i think i would do the same.

  6. ****I’d like to be able to wiggle my nose like Samantha in “Bewitched”****

OOO, I sooo love that sentence.

    Superb.

    Loved the interview. Xxx

  7. veehcirra says:

Pee standing now that’s hilarious 😉 Though women can do that too lol

I love how you described the people you love in 2 and 4 legged ones…

    Great interview.

    • hawleywood40 says:

Yeah, we could, but it would be so much easier to do so with something to aim lol! I have to admit, if that ever happened to me I would SO write in the snow …

Thanks for reading this interview and apologies for how redonkulously long it has taken me to reply!

Nice to know more about you Pam! LOL Thanks for the interview LFR, see you both soon 🙂

  10. Phil says:

Well, not everyone can like the correct football team, but otherwise another great choice for your CCC. I like the interview format – let’s us all get a peek into a number of folks who come here to play.

    • Lafemmeroar says:

I like the way you phrased “let’s us all get a peek into a number of folks who come here to play.” I like the thought of people playing on my side like a great big sandbox 🙂

    • hawleywood40 says:

Phil, the fact that I live in Baltimore makes my choice of teams even more obnoxious. At least that’s what friends/neighbors/coworkers/family members and my boyfriend all tell me. Thanks for reading and nice to meet you : )!

      • Phil says:

Baltimore is my back yard ya know… so I have a good idea of what you must go through on a regular basis. You’re a tough cookie – stay that way. Pleased to meet you too.

  11. Raine says:

You seem really chill and congrats on your publishing!!

  12. AH! I love that she said Accuweather. I’m kind of a weather junkie too!

  13. hawleywood40 says:

First and foremost, thanks to Lafemme for this interview and to all of you for reading. Second, apologies for my delay in responding. If there was a “doucherocket” award out there I would accept it with the grace of a Ms. America winner and wear the tiara with shame. When this interview was posted, my grandfather passed away and between traveling for his services and then spending my free time working through a lot of things with my grandmom, I completely missed Lafemme’s email that this was up. And then my trusty home computer retired unexpectedly and left me with no internet access for a bit unless I was at work, where for some stupid reason they actually think I should be …working (the horror!). Still no excuse for taking so long, but I did want everyone to know that normally, I would only be a runner up in a doucherocket contest and not a winner. Thank you all so much for reading and commenting : )!

Fun to learn more about you Pam. Green does go well with gold, so I’ll go along with your favorite colors. 😉

Congrats on your success of publication with your short stories. I know I already said it, but I’m so excited and proud for you! you’ve earned it!
