I love the bad boys …

He makes you feel squishy and gooey in all the right places. He’s tough, he’s dangerous and he’s hot. Bad boys make our blood boil and quiver our delicate loins. We know they’re not good for us, but why do we find them so damn irresistible?

He wasn’t very tall and he had funny looking ears, but the way Clark Gable swept Vivien Leigh up those stairs in “Gone with the Wind” makes my heart go pitter patter and other lady parts as well.  Read more of this post

Before They Were Stars

You Tube makes it possible for insomniacs like me to see what famous people did before they made it big.

Do you recognize the girl in this clip? Before she got her officer and gentleman, she came to terms with learning how to spin.

Tracey Ullman Woman of the Week

Image via IMDB

“The Simpsons” started with her. She made a music video with Paul McCartney and she’s been making us laugh for over two decades. Yes, it’s Tracey Ullman, the funny woman from England who became an American citizen in 2005. Who can forget the characters she created in “The Tracey Ullman Show.” From the perky 14-year-old Francesca McDowell to the meek and rather tragic Kay Clark, these characters remind me of what I watched in my youth, what made me laugh and what made me look forward to on Sunday nights.  I always felt a twinge of sadness at the end of every show when she said “Go Home … Go Home.”

With numerous movies, television appearances and her fabulous character-based series on HBO and Showtime, Tracey Ullman is my woman of the week because her talent has brought so much happiness to me and to her millions of  fans.

Here’s some vintage Tracey …

I Love the 80s

The Rapture didn’t happen and it’s Sunday. A time to reflect on the week past and to anticipate the dreaded week ahead. Instead of ruminating on these practical matters, my mind wandered elsewhere. I thought about my youth. I thought about the 80s: the clothes, the hair and my past loves. I can’t think about these things without thinking of these songs:

Chaka Khan Woman of the Week

Image via IMDB

I remember the days of Aqua Net, short skirts, and clubbing until 3am. It was a time when thoughts about the future were just a footnote in my to-do list. And when “Ain’t Nobody” by Rufus & Chaka Khan played I was out there shaking my ass. I was in the mode. I felt elevated. Music has a way of taking you to a different universe. Good times.

So, when I found out that Chaka Khan will be receiving her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today I dug into my closet.  And there it was old Rufus tapes and Chaka herself inside in a shoe box. I grabbed my little pink boom box, blew out the dust and popped in “Tell Me Something Good.” I popped in another and there was “I Feel for You” and another and an old romantic favorite crooned “Through the Fire.”

Newt Gingrich Glittered by Gay Activist

I’m non-partisan. So, I apologize in advance to Newt Gingrich fans, but I couldn’t resist sharing this one … During a book signing organized by the Minnesota Family Council, ex-husband, adulterer, former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and  2012 presidential candidate Newt Gingrich got glittered when Minnesota activist Nick Espinosa dumped two bags of the stuff on Gingrich’s head.

Funny Videos from You Tube Will Cheer You Up

It’s been a dreary Tuesday. Summer is nearing, but it rained today in Los Angeles and I need some cheering up. Maybe you do to wherever you are in the world.

Cute and just a touch creepy … but this Evian Babies video always makes me smile.

This second Evian commercial is for the kid in all of us.

Have you ever wondered about what PBS didn’t show in episodes of the French Chef? This SNL episode with Dan Aykroyd shows us the klutzy side of Julia Child.

I have seen the candy factory episode of I Love Lucy dozens of times and I always need to wear Depends when watching this scene.

And finally, this video of The Mamas & the Papas is for all you out there in California dreaming of sun and surf …

Cheers,
