Enjoying my Singledom

Being single and happy isn’t an oxymoron–it’s a harmonious existence that makes good sense. It’s better to be happy alone than to be miserable with the wrong guy. While I haven’t given up on finding love with “the one,” I’m not holding my breath either. Instead, I’m enjoying me. Being single and in a relationship with myself means never having to say let’s break-up. Here are some of the simple things I like to do alone:

  • Sunday breakfast at a quiet café with a good book.
  • Shopping at Victoria’s Secret without him telling me to hurry up.
  • Buying sexy undies for my eyes only.
  • Watching chick flicks on T.V.
  • Watching other couples argue at the mall and thinking thank god that’s not me.
  • Checking out every cute guy I see and not feeling guilty about it or fearing that I’ll get caught with a wandering eye.
  • Laundry for one.
  • Dishes for one.
  • The bed all to myself. I like to sleep spread eagle.
  • Listening to Chet Baker and drinking a glass (or two or three) of wine.
  • Skyping until the wee hours.
  • Blogging
  • Discovering who I am in my time of solitude …

What do you like doing alone? Are you single and loving it? Take this poll:

  1. Alone is good for a while. Alone can be happy quality growing time and aside from chick flicks (never really been a huge fan) I do pretty much all that stuff – but going on 6 years of singleness is enough already!!! I’m ready for an awesome dude to give just a few more reasons to smile! PS – that really is a great list and I would ad – climate permitting – Long power walks on the beach without someone telling you when to head home or to slow down or keep up – who needs that crap – really?!?

Great addition: Long power walks on the beach without someone telling you when to head home or to slow down or keep up – who needs that crap – really?!?

I’m ready to meet “the one.” Actually I’ve been ready for years. It’s a good thing I’m patient 🙂 You’ll meet him …

  2. Congrats on getting Freshly Pressed! thank you for sharing your story:) I’ve been single for about 6 months now. I like it but at the same time it can get a little lonely but that I know in time will pass.

    • Lafemmeroar says:

Yes, the loneliness will pass. Actually … I’ve equated loneliness with boredom. This is a good time to get to know yourself. As I always say: I’m a beautiful work in progress and so are you 🙂

I am a simple man of simple pleasures, as such I would have to go with.

    * Getting shitfaced drunk, eating a late night kebab, smelling like shit all night and stinking up the bathroom in the morning without feeling bad about it.
    * Spontaneously going out with friends without checking in with the girlfriend
    * Hitting on girls whenever and wherever I want
    * Being able to bring said girls home whenever I want
    * And lastly, being able to arrange threesomes without any jealousy or drama.

The only thing I miss at time is falling a sleep next to someone, I am a cuddly person at heart.

    • Lafemmeroar says:

Enjoy your simple pleasures and I hope you find that special someone to spoon with. Cuddling with one can be more satisfying than “bumpin’ uglies” with two. 🙂

      • beider says:

It is sure nice, but not ready to give up doing the three headed monster dance just yet. Perhaps I need to find a special someone who is willing to do both without drama, now that would be awesome 😀

I’m not so sure about watching chick flicks alone yet. So far they have proved to be dangerous and depressing thus far. I do love the own space/own bed thing though. Sooo nice!

    • Lafemmeroar says:

Try “First Wives Club” hilarious! Not romantic … more on funny revenge.

      • effeuiller says:

Ahh! I heart that movie! I’m another one who doesn’t like chick flicks when single though, they end up depressing me. I’ll take an action or horror movie anytime over a chick flick.

        • Lafemmeroar says:

My fave actions: Resident Evil movies, Kill Bill, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Matrix
Horror: Exorcist (I’m too scared to think of men and romance when watching that little girl vomit guacamole)
Sci-fi: Blade Runner is my all time fav (it has a love story sub-plot though).

You got me thinking now with your comment … 🙂

  5. Among my favorite things of singledom:
    1. Cleaning in the nude! Try doing that with a partner around…
    2. Watching hours of Will & Grace or Sex and the City at night
    3. Having lots of snacks instead of a full meal for dinner.

Things I like to do single:
    1. Sleep in or do a day of rest with books, tea, laptop in my bed all day.
    2. Girlfriend sleep overs (no, not that way, just PJ’s, chick flicks and manicures)
    3. Savour my own peaceful space that no one can intrude on or invade.
    4. Eat what and when I feel like it. Or not.
    5. Enjoy the quiet of my own thoughts.
    6. Kick sex mongering guys to the curb.
    7. Start writing in the middle of the night when I only meant to go pee.
    8. Talking with my girlfriends on the phone as long as I feel like without interruption.
    9. Go out for dessert instead of dinner with a pen, journal and magazine.
    10. Read in bed with the light on as long as I want to.

Having all the hot water in the shower for as long as you want!
    … oh wait… I’m IN a satisfying relationship! My bad. ; )

  8. jsh0608 says:

I tell everyone that it is better to be alone then with the wrong guy. I tell them to make themselves happy first and then the rest will follow…whether it takes a month or 10 years it will happen when it is suppose to happen.

  9. sayali611 says:

Why make a list? I love doing everything ‘single’ as much as I would love them with the special someone. May be its just me but I can’t seem to understand how people (not you lafemme! you’re my CC chief) sulk and wait for someone else to enter into their lives and magically transform them into a living smiley. If you couldn’t keep yourself happy, how can you spread that magical level of happiness to a partner? It is two way remember?

  10. supernaut says:

Well I’m not single, but then I do enjoy my moments of solitude… And here’s an excerpt from my list:

    Sipping coffee
Sitting in the patio, watching the traffic flow
Watching clouds change color at sunset
Staring at the moon, dreaming of R. Daneel Olivaw

Where I come from, there’s a saying that translates to:
“Marriage (or togetherness in today’s world) is a dessert – those who eat it, regret it. Those who don’t eat it regret it too”

    • Lafemmeroar says:

Great list and I love your comment: “Marriage (or togetherness in today’s world) is a dessert – those who eat it, regret it. Those who don’t eat it regret it too”
I guess when it comes to love we’re all screwed (not in a good way). But I’m optimistic … I hope I don’t regret it.

Talk to me :)
